Lawyer Overview

Phillip J. Articola is special counsel in Foley's Washington, D.C. office. A member of the firm's Electronics Practice Group, Mr. Articola counsels clients on the application and prosecution of electrical and mechanical patents, electronic and computer technology patents, computer patent prosecution, patent infringement litigation, trademark prosecution, patent validity and infringement opinions, and electronic media mergers and acquisitions. He has had substantial experience in communications-related areas, including both Personal Communications Service (PCS) Systems and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology; image processing; telecommunications; as well as computer software and hardware.

Mr. Articola has written several articles concerning patent law, including an article on Intervening Rights in Reissues and Reexaminations, an article on Petitions to Make Special, several patent prosecution tips articles, and a historical article regarding a Stonewall Jackson patent.

Mr. Articola graduated from the University of Maryland (B.S and M.S., electrical engineering, with honors; J.D., with honors).

Mr. Articola is admitted to practice in Maryland and in the District of Columbia. He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the ABA and AIPLA.
