Lawyer Overview

Volker Kammel's practice focuses on restructuring and insolvency, mergers and acquisitions, and rescue financing. He advises investors on the acquisition of distressed businesses and the purchase of nonperforming loans, including loan-to-own strategies, and represents companies in financial difficulty, their managements, and their shareholders in complex restructurings. He acts for financial institutions, suppliers, and other stakeholders in restructurings, refinancing transactions, and insolvency proceedings, including representation on creditor committees and in creditor assemblies, restructuring plan negotiations, and insolvency-related litigation.

Volker's recent major investor representations include advising Cerberus, Goldman Sachs, International Automotive Components Group, and WL Ross & Co. in a number of transactions. Selected creditor matters include representing lenders in the Schieder Möbel, Systor Group, Swiss Air, and Venture/Peguform insolvency cases. Ongoing restructuring matters involve a significant number of automotive suppliers in financial distress and recent restructurings include advice to Dana Corporation on the divestment of its shareholdings in GETRAG GmbH & Cie KG and on its pan-European receivables securitization.

Volker's high-profile representations prior to joining Jones Day include advice to financial institutions in the insolvency proceedings of Fairchild Dornier, the Hahn Real Estate Group, and Kirch Media. He acted for Philipp Holzmann AG in the company's 1999 restructuring.

Volker is a member of the insolvency and restructuring practice group of the German Bar Association and of the Association of Bank Lawyers. He has published and lectured extensively on distressed mergers and acquisitions, cross-border insolvencies, and other insolvency-related matters.
