Lawyer Overview
Lowell E. Sweet, now retired, practiced law in Wisconsin for over 50 years primarily in the areas of condominium, corporate and real estate law and was the founder of the law firm of Sweet & Maier, S.C. Sweet served as an instructor for the General Practice Course at the University of Wisconsin Law School in the fields of real estate law and practice management. He also taught at Gateway Technical College and Carthage College in the areas of estate planning and real estate law. Sweet was a frequent lecturer in the Continuing Legal Education programs of the State Bar of Wisconsin in the areas of condominium, office management, probate, real estate, taxation and zoning law. He has been a speaker at the American Bar Association on the subject of condominium law and a speaker at National Law Institute on condominiums and ethics.
Attorney Sweet has had numerous articles published in various legal publications on legal topics. He also served as a member of the editorial board for the Workbook for Wisconsin Estate Planners. As a member of the American Bar Association, he served on a number of committees dealing with taxation, real estate, condominium associations and general practice. He was elected to membership as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He served on Board of Governors; chairperson of the Legal Education and Admissions, Continuing Legal Education, Nominating, Videotape and Finance committees; director of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section; director and chairperson of Office Management Section; and has served on the Finance, Legal Education, Inter-professional and Business Relations, Nominating, Facilities, Electronic Bar Forms, Technology in Practice, Continuing Legal Education, Videotape, Electronic Bar Services and the Planning committees of the Wisconsin Bar Association.
He served as President of the Walworth County Bar Association and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in the fall of 2011 by the Walworth County Bar. Sweet received a citation from the Wisconsin Legislature for his services in drafting the Wisconsin Condominium Act. He was appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin to serve on the Joint Survey Committee on Debt Management. He also has an AV Rating with Martindale - Hubbell.
