Summary

Lawyer Overview

A member of the firm, Rosemarie Paine has been nationally recognized as one of Connecticut 's top trial lawyers.  She's been selected for membership in "The Best Lawyers in America" and named a "Super Lawyer" by Connecticut Magazine. Since 2003, she's been certified as a Board Certified Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  In 2011 she was named one of Connecticut's "Top Twenty-Five" women lawyers.

Rosemarie's practice focuses on clients injured by medical or hospital malpractice, in motor vehicle accidents, and in workplace incidents. She also represents clients accused of serious crimes and works regularly with the Innocence Project, an organization that advocates for those wrongly convicted of crimes.

A few examples of Rosemarie's cases include the following:

She secured a multi-million dollar trial settlement for an ironworker whose leg was amputated following a crush injury at a construction site.

She secured a three million dollar pretrial medical malpractice case settlement against a radiologist who misinterpreted a CT scan.

After a two week trial, she obtained a jury verdict of $1,025,000 in a medical malpractice abdominal surgery case.

She secured a confidential wrongful death settlement against a mental health facility for the suicide death of her client.

She secured a $900,000 pre-trial settlement for a woman injured in an auto accident roll-over.

She obtained a $750,000 settlement for a client who sustained a back injury after falling on ice on an apartment house porch.

Working with the Innocence Project, and through the use of DNA testing, she secured the release from prison of a client wrongly convicted of felony murder.

With Attorney Willie Dow, she secured an acquittal in a murder trial in which the State  prosecuted a twenty year old "unsolved" killing based on DNA found on the clothing of the victim.

Rosemarie grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, and attended Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden. After law school at the University of Connecticut, she practiced trial law in New York City, where she defended clients accused of serious crimes. She returned to Connecticut in 1996, working as a civil and criminal litigator, before joining the firm in 2000.

Rosemarie's practice focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice, criminal defense and civil rights litigation. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice. Elected to the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Board of Governors, Rosemarie co-chairs the CTLA Women's Caucus and is also a member of the Women's Caucus for the American Association for Justice.

Rosemarie teaches trial advocacy at the University of Connecticut Law School and  regularly lectures on trial law before professional groups. Rosemarie is also active in Habitat for Humanity, serving on the organization's Board of Directors and as Chair for Humanity's Women's Build, which raises funds and builds homes for deserving New Haven Families.
