Lawyer Overview
Michael E. Greene is a partner in the Firm's Litigation Department. His practice focuses on commercial litigation.
Mr. Greene is Chairman of the firm's Matrimonial Department and has extensive experience in all areas of Domestic Relations Law. Specifically, he works on matters involving high-end income couples, valuation of businesses and equitable distribution of marital assets.
Mr. Greene has extensive experience in construction litigation and has counseled companies ranging from developers involved in multi-million dollar projects to sub-subcontractors. He has acted as general counsel to companies, assisting them from the bidding process right through to final closeout of a project. He has litigated their claims for completed contract work as well as change orders.
Mr. Greene also represents numerous closely-held corporations counseling them on all matters relating to their companies. He has also represented individuals in the buying and/or selling of their interests in closely-held corporations.
Mr. Greene has extensive trial experience in the Federal and State courts as well as arbitrations and mediations. He has successfully obtained million dollar judgments on behalf of his clients and has also successfully defended million dollar claims commenced against his clients, obtaining a number of defendants' verdicts in their favor. Mr. Greene is an "AV" rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available to attorneys. He is admitted to all State and Federal courts in New York.
Mr. Greene is a 1970 graduate of Old Dominion University with a B.A. in Political Science. He attended the St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, graduating in 1975, where he was a member of The Law Review. He was part of a symposium which authored "Exercise of Federal Court Jurisdiction Not Specifically'' Conferred - Ancillary and Pendent Jurisdiction", 5 St. Mary's Law Journal 489, 507-518, 1973.
Mr. Greene has served the legal community for many years in various teaching positions. He has been an Adjunct Professor for the Trial Advocacy Program at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law for the past 15 years. In this capacity, he teaches law students the art of trial advocacy based in part upon is own trial experiences. He is also a Small Claims Arbitrator for the New York County Civil Court. In this position, he presides over disputes between individuals in all areas of commercial law.
