THEODORE F. SHIELLS, Partner:  Partner Ted Shiells brings more than 18 years of experience in Intellectual Property law, including a background in licensing, litigation and prosecution. His patent infringement cases have included high-performance baseball bats, offshore oilrigs, and chemical processes. Mr. Shiells has provided trademark and copyright infringement counsel in cases involving national restaurant chains, food product packaging, and a popular bean-bag toy. His patent prosecution experience includes systems for advanced helicopter and military image processing, telecommunications systems, building construction materials, and sports equipment.

Mr. Shiells is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is member of the state bars of Texas, California, and New York. He is admitted to practice in United States District Courts in the Northern District of Texas, the Southern and Eastern District of New York, and the Eastern District of Michigan, and before the United States Court of Federal Claims and Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

A frequent author, Mr. Shiells is also a member of many professional organizations including the Dallas Bar Association (Intellectual Property Section); the State Bar of Texas; the Dallas-Fort Worth Intellectual Property Law Association; the New York Intellectual Property Law Association; and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Shiells co-authored "A Comprehensive Approach to IP Lawyering" in the February 11, 2002 issue of Texas Lawyer and "Wireless Applications Require Comprehensive IP Protection Plan" in the March 18, 2002, issue of Dallas-Fort Worth TechBiz. His published articles also include "In a Novel Ruling, the Sixth Circuit Holds That Attorneys May Be Liable in a Bivens Action If They've Seized Goods That Allegedly Infringe a Copyright or Trademark," in The National Law Journal on July 1, 1996.

Mr. Shiells received his Juris Doctorate degree from Hastings College of Law at the University of California in 1983 and his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California in 1975. Mr. Shiells has undertaken graduate studies in Telecommunications.
