Lawyer Overview
Richard Freling's practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, counseling on corporate governance, and technology transactions. He also has extensive experience in the federal tax aspects of complex transactions.
Richard has been lead counsel in numerous M&A transactions and financings involving public and private corporations, as well as a variety of e-commerce joint ventures.
Richard is a Life Member of The American Law Institute, a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He previously was a council member of the Taxation Section of the American Bar Association, and served as chair of The Center for American and International Law's Symposium on Securities Regulation. He was the first recipient of the Faculty Award for outstanding contributions to the University of Texas law school.
Richard also has served as president and chairman of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He is an emeritus member of The Center for American and International Law and is a former director of the SMU Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series, the Dallas Institute of the Humanities, Pine Manor College, St. Mark's School of Texas, The Greenhill School, and the Colorado Outward Bound Executive Committee. He is currently a member of the board of the AT&T Center for the Performing Arts and the Dallas Symphony Foundation.
Richard is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for 25 consecutive years.
