Lawyer Overview

Kevin Cogan has extensive trial and jury trial experience in complex civil litigation of all types, from corporate control contests and securities fraud, to insurance coverage and water rights. He has tried cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States.

Kevin was co-trial counsel in Danaher Corporation v. Acme Cleveland and United Dominion Industries v. Commercial Intertech, Inc. where Jones Day successfully defended the targets of attempted hostile takeovers. Kevin successfully defended MPW Industrial Services Group in a securities class action filed in Ohio state court. He was a member of the defense team representing Cardinal Health in its securities litigation.

Kevin was a member of the trial team that successfully represented Cooper Industries in its insurance coverage dispute with Employer's Insurance of Wausau and other insurance carriers. Kevin successfully defended Buckeye Egg Farm, one of the nation's leading egg producers, in a class action relating to Buckeye Egg's use of beneficial insects to control nuisance insects. He was co-trial counsel in the case of Atlantic Richfield Company, et al. v. Alcan Aluminium Holdings. Ltd., an action tried in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Kevin successfully defended Diagnostic Imaging Associates of Ohio, a central Ohio radiology provider, and its chief executive officer, in an eight-day jury trial against claims of fraud and breach of fiduciary duty. He was the lead trial counsel in a major water rights case challenging the city of Akron's use and management of the Cuyahoga River.

Kevin served as special counsel to Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro. He is a Franklin County Commissioner appointee to the board of trustees of the Franklin Park Conservatory and serves on the Executive Committee and the Judicial Screening Committee of the Franklin County Republican party.
