Law Firm Overview

Barrett & Gilman is a spin-off of one of Seattles old-line firms which traces its roots back to the turn of the century. The firm has historically focused on commercial matters with a strong regional presence in commercial litigation, and it provides general representation to small and medium-sized businesses. The firm has four attorneys, two of whom are partners.
 
Paul A. Barrett graduated from Harvard Law School and entered private practice in 1966. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, with emphasis on construction, products liability and insurance coverage matters. For more than thirty-five years he has been serving as lead counsel on matters in these and other areas of commercial litigation, appearing before the federal and state courts in Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii and a number of other jurisdictions.
 
Thomas L. Gilman graduated from Rutgers University School of Law and entered private practice in 1978. His practice also includes general commercial litigation, business law and real estate law. Mr. Gilman practices in all federal and state courts in Washington. He has litigated a wide range of disputes, including disputes involving partnerships, contracts, real estate, secured transactions, construction, securities law, insurance coverage, intellectual property licenses and environmental property damage. On the transactional side Mr. Gilman assists clients in forming and maintaining business entities, business and corporate finance, private placement of securities, real estate transactions, secured lending, the purchase and sale of businesses, and business succession planning.
