Lawyer Overview

María Farall, an Argentine as well as a U.S. lawyer, focuses on domestic and cross-border M&A and corporate matters. She has participated in numerous representations throughout Latin America, including in Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. She also has assisted several Latin American and European companies in setting up operations in the United States. Prior to relocating to the United States in 1995, María practiced law in Argentina for two years assisting foreign companies with their Argentine operations.

Representative M&A transactions include: the $430 million sale of PODS to Arcapita, The Standard Bank of South Africa's acquisition of substantially all the Argentine operations of Bank Boston and its sale of $355 million Tier II Notes in a private placement, various M&A and joint venture transactions for Eastman Chemical Company, and Lafarge's buyout of its joint venture partner in U.S. and Mexican companies.

Other representative clients include Monier, Endesa, Oxiteno, Brisa, Union Fenosa, and Georgia Gulf Corporation.

María is a member of the advisory board of the Latin American Law & Business Report and has written several articles on Latin American matters for this publication. She previously served as an editorial advisor of the Letters of Credit Report and wrote several articles for the bulletin.
