Lawyer Overview

Louise Rankin practices in the area of tax-exempt 501(c)(3) financings. Since 1985 she has practiced full time as bond counsel or underwriter's counsel in health care, long-term care, and educational facility financings. She has extensive experience in multistate system financings for health care and long-term care providers, as well as numerous stand-alone hospitals, continuing care retirement communities, and nursing homes. In the role of bond counsel she has developed master trust indenture covenants appropriate to the changing health care industry, which have been negotiated with and accepted by the major bond insurers and rating agencies.

Louise is part of the Jones Day health care finance practice team, which has handled more health care bond issues as bond counsel and underwriter's counsel than any other law firm.

Louise serves as bond counsel to Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, Covenant Retirement Communities, and American Baptist Homes of the West. She also has represented Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Ziegler Capital Markets, and Piper Jaffray, among many others, as underwriter's counsel in health care and long-term care transactions.

Louise is a member of the State Bar of California, the State Bar of Michigan, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL), and The Healthcare Roundtable for Chief Financial Officers. She has been a featured speaker at NABL panels concerning 501(c)(3), hospital, and life care bonds.
