Law Firm Overview
The firm was founded by Jane Schoener in 1987 and is committed to excellence and service in the representation of clients exclusively in the field of Immigration and Naturalization. The firm provides a full range of services to corporate and individual clients. A large concentration of the practice is devoted to obtaining employment based visas for foreign nationals and obtaining permanent resident status through employers and qualifying family members. Our clients are located throughout the United States.
In 1997 the firm became Schoener & Kascavage PC. The firm is comprised of thee lawyers and two legal assistants. Over the years the firm has handled a wide variety of Immigration cases including H-1B visas, L-1 visas, labor certifications, extraordinary ability petitions, outstanding professors and researchers and national interest waivers. In addition to employment based cases, the firm handles family based petitions, adjustment of status and extension of non-immigrant visas. The firm also handles removal proceedings and administrative and federal court appeals. Martin Kascavage was lead counsel in a series of cases in the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit raising constitutional challenges to the statutory interpretation of various provisions of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). The firm continues to fight for the rights of detained aliens who are subject to the harsh consequences associated with the 1996 immigration reforms. The firms newest addition, William E. Maronski, Jr. has practiced criminal law and provides expertise in the representation of aliens with criminal issues. He also handles complex immigration litigation issues.
The firm also successfully litigated asylum cases before the Immigration Judges, Board of Immigration Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Our goal is the efficient and compassionate representation of aliens who have fled persecution in their country of citizenship.
Finally, the firm represents major corporate clients advising them with regard to problems arising from the government enforcement of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1996. The firm provides consultations and audits of records required to be maintained by every business in the United States. We provide representation not only during INS and Department of Labor investigations but also advise clients on a regular basis regarding compliance issues.
The firm is devoted to community service. Jane M. Schoener formerly served as a member of the Board of Directors of Nationalities Service Center. NSC is a non-profit, United Way agency that responds to the social, legal and educational needs of immigrants and refugees. The firm also accepts referrals from community agencies providing limited legal and social services to refugees and immigrants. Members of the firm have lectured both to attorneys and community groups regarding immigration issues.
