David Lawyer was born in Des Moines and raised in Norwalk. He formed his own law firm after graduation, and he comes from a family of "lawyer Lawyers." John Dougherty was born and raised in the Des Moines area. He practiced at the Patterson Law Firm before joining his colleagues at Lawyer, Dougherty, Palmer & Flansburg. Tom Palmer was born in Des Moines and raised in Oskaloosa. He previously worked with the firm of Hawkins & Norris. Beth Flansburg was born and raised in Des Moines. She was a newspaper reporter and editor before practicing law. She worked with Roxanne Conlin before joining the firm.

David, John, Tom, and Beth all received their undergraduate degrees from the University of Iowa and graduated from Drake University Law School. They are all licensed to practice law in Iowa and are admitted to practice before all Iowa State Courts, and the United States District Court for the District of Iowa. Their thousands of clients over the years have taught them how injuries can devastate lives. Each attorney is a spouse and a parent, so they also have a real understanding of the difficulties that each client faces as a result of a personal injury or workplace accident.
