Summary

Lawyer Overview

Named one of the Top 100 Women Attorneys in Minnesota Linda A. Olup has, over the last 30 years, risen to become one of the doyennes of divorce law in Minnesota.  Her experience extends beyond the courtroom and includes impressive speaking and writing credentials on a variety of family law topics, with a focus on the financial implications of divorce and custody issues.

Profiled in Minnesota's Law & Politics and Minnesota Monthly. Linda has been identified as the woman to hire when a divorce is imminent.

Linda attended the William Mitchell College of Law and graduated in 1977.  She began her work in family law when, as a law student, she worked at Legal Assistance of Ramsey County.  She was one of the first students in Minnesota to obtain a special limited license that allowed her to represent clients in court while she was a student.

Linda was among the first women admitted into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, prestigious national and international organizations with rigorous admission standards.  She has been quoted in the New York Times and is co-author of the leading Minnesota treatise on family law.  She has contributed to other books including Stock Options: Beyond the Basics. Third Ed. Published by The National Center for Employee Ownership.

Linda has been named to each of the Minnesota 's Super Lawyers lists since it's inception in 1991.  Martindale-Hubbell has identified her as one of the pre-eminent divorce attorneys in the United States and has accorded her their highest (AV) rating.  Her name also appears in other publications recognizing her as a leader including the Consumer's Guide to Law and Leading Attorneys, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who Among American Women.  She is thus recognized for her skill not only by the public but also by her peers, proving without question that she is at the top of her field.

Linda writes and lectures, presenting to her colleagues and the general public on a variety of topics including custody, child support, spousal maintenance, stock options, pensions, nonmarital issues and other subjects.  She has appeared on local and national television and has been on several radio talk shows.  She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Academy of Matrimonial Law (she was President of the Minnesota Chapter in 1989-90) and International Academy of Matrimonial Law.  She is licensed to practice before the federal and state courts of Minnesota and the U.S. Court of Appeals.

In addition to her professional work Linda serves and has served on the Boards of several non-profit organizations, currently devoting her resources and time to the Minnesota Urban Debate League (MUDL), an organization that introduces local high school students from disadvantaged areas to debate and the short and long-term benefits that debate can have on their future.
