Tom Howley has a national practice that is focused on distressed corporate acquisitions and divestitures, workouts, reorganizations, insolvency, and bankruptcy law, including representation of chapter 11 debtors, ad hoc committees, unsecured creditors' committees, hedge funds, distressed investors, debtor-in-possession lenders, and special situation lenders.

Tom's experience includes representation of: the ad hoc committee of noteholders (who are collectively owed $450 million) in the chapter 11 cases of Energy Partners, Ltd; the majority secured noteholder in the workout of an independent exploration and production company; the fifth largest operator of funeral homes and cemeteries in the U.S. along with 47 of its related debtors in their chapter 11 cases in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (the cases concluded with a successful sale of all of the operator's assets and a confirmed plan of liquidation); the DIP agent and prepetition agent in the chapter 11 case of a plastics-injection molding company with domestic and international operations on behalf of the secured lenders who were owed in excess of $160 million; the administrative agent in connection with debtor-in-possession financing and a subsequent exit financing for a major manufacturer of paper products; the prepetition secured lenders that were also the DIP and exit financing lenders and prospective equity owners in a national trucking transport company; and the bondholders of a national restaurant chain in a corporate restructuring.

Tom is a member of the Houston Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas (council member and treasurer of the Bankruptcy Law Section), the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association (past-president, Houston chapter and a current member of the board of directors of TMA Houston and a former member of TMA International). Tom is also chair of the 2009 Texas State Bar Advanced Business Bankruptcy Conference.
