Lawyer Overview
A partner in the Real Estate Department since 1990, Mitchell L. Berg has handled a wide range of sales, acquisitions, financings and leasing transactions for such clients as Goldman Sachs, MeriStar Hospitality Corporation, Hines Interests Limited Partnership, UBS, Morgan Stanley, Kimco Realty Corporation, Oaktree Capital Management, Oak Hill Capital Partners and the Berkshire Group.
Mr. Berg has extensive experience in the formation and structuring of joint ventures, partnerships and other vehicles for investment in real estate, including public and private real estate investment trusts and investment funds composed of both taxable and tax-exempt investors. His experience includes:
- The formation of real estate investment funds and co-investment vehicles with aggregate equity capital of approximately $4 billion, including entities formed for the purpose of investing in India, other emerging markets and Europe, and the representation of established investment funds in all aspects of their business, including acquisitions, financings and dispositions;
- The representation of investment funds and other institutional clients in the formation of joint ventures with operating partners for the ownership and operation of hotels, office buildings and other types of real estate assets; and
- A variety of international real estate transactions, including acquisitions in India, Eastern Europe, Latin America and East Asia, plus extensive experience in the acquisition and financing of large portfolios of real estate, including hotels, apartment buildings and health care facilities.
His articles on complex issues and new developments in real estate law have appeared in the Real Estate Finance Journal, the National Law Journal and the New York Law Journal.
