Stephen Erickson won a $114.8 million award against St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn. Three years before, in 1998, Steven Pegalis won the highest medical malpractice verdict for his client, a brain injured child, against New York City Health and Hospital Corp. That verdict amounted to $116 million and held the record for the highest medical malpractice verdict in the state. Steven Pegalis also won the seventh highest verdict in 2001 for another brain injured child which amounted to $35 million. In 2004, Steve Pegalis won an $111.7 million verdict in a Suffolk County case for a brain injured child. This verdict represents the highest verdict in the country and the fourth highest in the state.
