Lawyer Overview
Daniel F. Hayes, born in the Bronx, New York. A graduate of Regis High School (1961), he received an A.B. degree from Fordham University (1965) and a J.D. degree from New York University School of Law (1977). Between college and law school, Mr. Hayes won an officer’s commission in the Regular Air Force from Officer Training School, was awarded pilot’s wings, and flew heavy transport aircraft worldwide. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and other decorations for flying missions in tactical electronic reconnaissance aircraft during the Vietnam War. He has held the highest FAA pilot’s license since 1971.
Dan has had extensive trial and appeals experience in aviation, negligence, product liability, maritime, insurance coverage and commercial cases in federal and state courts in New York and around the country since 1978, including numerous air carrier disasters and general aviation casualties. He has represented air carriers, insurers, and aircraft manufacturers and operators, and has defended airmen and operators before the FAA.
He is admitted to practice in New York (1978) and the District of Columbia (1980); the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, the District of Columbia, and the District of Maryland; the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; the United States Court for Federal Claims; and the United States Supreme Court.
