Christopher R. Lipsett is a partner in the firm's Regulatory and Government Affairs and Litigation/Controversy Departments. He is a member of the Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation, Government and Regulatory Litigation, and Financial Institutions Practice Groups, and the Business Trial Group and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Working Group. He joined the firm in 1976. Mr. Lipsett has a general regulatory and litigation practice with emphasis on financial institutions and payment networks.
Practice
Mr. Lipsett has represented a wide range of firms on financial regulatory and litigation matters including JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Citigroup, GC Services, GE, The Clearing House Association, and the ABA and AFSA. His practice has included counseling on a wide range of major regulatory problems and issues; new product development, representing clients in rulemaking, enforcement and other regulatory proceedings; transactional matters; and litigation in federal and state courts.
Recent Highlights
- Handled a wide variety of significant issue-oriented, class-action and other high stakes litigations in State and Federal courts at all levels, for a wide range of financial institutions, including the following matters decided by the US Supreme Court: Chase Bank v. McCoy; Cuomo v. The Clearing House Association; Pfennig v. MBNA; Beneficial v. Anderson; ABA v. NCUA; Smiley v. Citibank
- Represented major industry members in connection with proposed regulatory initiatives on consumer credit issues
- Counseled a number of major providers of financial products, new product development, consumer contracts, disclosures and regulatory compliance matters, and in significant transactions
Professional Activities
Mr. Lipsett is a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.
