Lawyer Overview
Benjamin Barrett is a partner in the Atlanta law firm of Barrett & Farahany, LLP, representing plaintiffs in employment, overtime, sexual harassment and inadequate security litigation.
Benjamin graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1987. He is licensed to practice law in Ohio (1987) and Georgia (1999) and is admitted to practice before many federal courts and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Benjamin has focused his legal practice in the areas of personal injury and employment litigation. He has also handled numerous cases in the areas of automobile, trucking, aviation, boating, railroad and insurance litigation, and has represented people injured due to negligence in the health care industry.
Prior to starting Barrett & Farahany, Benjamin was a partner in the law firm of Miraldi & Barrett in Lorain, Ohio.
An experienced trial lawyer, Benjamin has been awarded status as a Fellow of the National College of Advocacy by the American Association for Justice. This designation signifies commitment to effective representation of his clients and his dedication to achieving a high level of competence.
In addition to his recognized litigation experience, Benjamin has conducted extensive research in the area of jury bias for over sixteen years. He conducts focus groups as part of his law practice, and is sought by other attorneys to assist in the presentation of their cases and to determine how jurors respond to various case facts and issues.
Benjamin is a sought international speaker, focusing on topics including: "Jury Bias After September 11" for the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and the National Crime Victim Bar Association; "Using Focus Groups to Develop Opening Statements" for the National Employment Lawyers Association; and "Apportionment of Fault in Inadequate Property Security Cases" at the Mealey's Retail Liability Conference.
Benjamin serves on the advisory board to the National Crime Victim Bar Association in Washington, D.C., and was the legal advisor to the Board of Directors of the Crime Victim's Advocacy Council in Atlanta. He was also a founding board member for Anne's Home Just-in-Case, a Chicago organization that provides therapeutic services to young women raped on or near their college campus. In addition to his active participation in promoting victim's rights, Benjamin has served as the president of the National Employment Lawyers Association - Georgia chapter, a board member on the Institutional Review Board of Community Health Partners/Hospital since 1988, and an active member of the Inadequate Security Litigation group for the American Association for Justice.
Since 1992, Benjamin has volunteered as the legal advisor to the mock trial teams at Open Door High School and more recently, Elyria High School. Under his guidance, his teams have achieved significant awards, including "Best Attorney." Many of his prior students have since become accomplished attorneys.
