ATTORNEY PROFILES
Richard L. Burpee was born in Winchester, Massachusetts in 1953. He is a 1981 graduate of Suffolk University Law School where he served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. Rick received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Wesleyan University in 1975.
After graduating from law school, Rick served as a law clerk for Judge J. Calvitt Clarke, Jr. in the United States District Court in Norfolk, Virginia. He returned to Boston in 1982 and started his legal career at the law firm of Sugarman & Sugarman. He concentrated there on the representation of plaintiffs in a wide range of personal injury litigation, including product liability and medical malpractice. In 1985 he joined the law firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould as an associate. He was elected a partner at Bingham, Dana & Gould in 1990.
Rick has extensive trial experience in product liability matters including the defense of pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers and trucking equipment manufacturers. His other areas of concentration include personal injury, professional malpractice, general commercial litigation, and estate planning.
Rick has lectured on trial advocacy and trial preparation skills for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Foundation and the National Business Institute. He is the author of Manufacturers' Reliance on Employers' Duty to Warn, 33 For the Defense 22 (1991) and Contingent Fee Agreements--For the Defense, 36 For the Defense 27 (1994). From 1995 - 1997, he was a Council Member of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Small Firm Management Section. Rick is enrolled in the Graduate Tax Program at Boston University School of Law. He expects to receive his L.L.M. in Taxation in May 2001.
- KENNETH J. DEMOURA
Kenneth J. DeMoura is a native of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from University of Lowell (summa cum laude) in 1983 and received his law degree (magna cum laude) from New England School of Law in 1986. Ken served as an editor of the New England Journal on Criminal and Civil Confinement while in law school.
After law school, Ken joined the law firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould as a litigation associate where he handled a wide range of legal matters involving product liability, wrongful termination, commercial disputes, professional malpractice and bankruptcy. He handled over thirty arbitration matters for a major automobile manufacturer and participated in more than ten jury trials. In 1987, Ken was appointed and served as Special Assistant District Attorney in Plymouth County handling criminal matters.
Ken is a founding member of the Boston Inn of Court, a professional association dedicated to fostering professionalism, high ethical standards and the improvement of the advocacy skills of the trial bar. From 1987 to 1996 he served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at New England School of Law teaching Legal Writing and Research. He also serves as a Trial Advisor for the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy program.
Ken is currently a member of the St. Brigid School Board and the Parish Council for St. Brigid Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
