A native Northern Virginian, Mr. Kattenburg has been a trial lawyer in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over 35 years, concentrating his practice on representing injured victims of medical malpractice and individuals whose serious injuries or death has been caused by someone else's negligence.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the George Washington University Law School , Mr. Kattenburg began his trial practice in 1972 in Falls Church , Virginia , after completing a clerkship with the Hon. Paul F. McArdle, a judge who served on the Superior Court for the District of Columbia . In 1978, he moved his law practice to Fairfax , Virginia with emphasis in insurance defense law. From 1997 to 1998, he served as President of the Northern Virginia Defense Lawyers Association. He currently represents the seriously injured, handling cases involving wrongful death, medical negligence, defective products, premises liability, traumatic brain injury, and high impact motor vehicle/truck collisions.

A veteran of over 100 jury trials, Mr. Kattenburg has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the Commonwealth. He also represents individuals who get hurt on the job in workers' compensation claims before the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission. Over the years, Mr. Kattenburg has acquired a proficiency in the intricacies of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, the Federal Tort Claims Act, the Virginia Tort Claims Act, the Virginia Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Act, and the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act.

He represents clients in state and federal courts throughout Northern Virginia in the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun, Fauquier, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Frederick and the City of Alexandria including Annandale, Rosslyn, McLean, Great Falls, Langley, Tyson's Corner, Falls Church, Vienna, Oakton, Fairfax City, Fairfax Station, Springfield, Burke, Herndon, Reston, Centreville, Clifton, Sterling, Chantilly, Manassas, Dulles, Ashburn, Broadlands, Cascades, Potomac Falls, South Riding, Leesburg, Middleburg, Warrenton, Woodbridge, Dale City, Fredericksburg and Winchester.
