Whipple and Viele, A Professional Law Corporation, is a Ventura law firm specializing in all aspects of divorce and family law, including dissolution of marriage, legal separation, nullity, to include custody, visitation, child and spousal support, marital property division, modification and termination of support orders, prosecution and defense of contempt proceedings, and preparation of pre-and post-marital agreeements, as well as marital settlement agreements.

In California, a party may obtain a DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE, or what used to be called a divorce, if one party states that the party as "irreconcilable differences." There is no bar to the granting of the divorce because the other party disagrees. The court treats the dissolution as if it were the break up of a business partnership. The assets are to be divided equally by the parties. The job of your divorce attorney is to obtain for you the best results possible. A divorce will take six months from the date the Petition is filed and served on the other party. It cannot be done faster than this unless a nullity is obtained. A nullity is only awarded if there is a certain specific ground. The actual dissolution may take longer than six months, if all the issues have not been settled or tried, or the custody of children is in dispute.
