Lawyer Overview

Mr. Gruen heads the firm's Business and Real Estate Tax Practice Group and has extensive experience in Connecticut and federal tax planning and litigation as well as extensive transactional experience in tax issues involving mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, entity formation, consolidated returns, low income housing tax credits and international tax planning for the firm's foreign and domestic clients. He is a member of the Executive Committees of the Tax Section (chairman of the Property and Conveyance Tax Subcommittee) and International Law and World Peace Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He is also an active member of the firm's Affordable Housing, Community Development and Tax Credit Practice Group and has represented numerous clients in connection with the acquisition, financing and development of affordable housing projects. He is a frequent speaker at tax seminars on state and federal tax and affordable housing issues .

Mr. Gruen graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in 1976 and from the Boston University School of Law with a J.D. in 1979. He spent the first six years of practice after law school with the tax departments of two national accounting firms then named Arthur Andersen & Co. and Laventhol & Horwath.
