Lawyer Overview

Charles A. Shultz is a Partner with the law firm of Wasserman, Comden & Casselman, LLP and head of the firm's Estate Planning, Trust Administration and Trust Litigation Department.  Since he began practicing law in 1994, Mr. Shultz' primary emphasis has been consulting with clients regarding estate and gift planning opportunities, business and succession planning, advising fiduciaries and beneficiaries in connection with trust and estate administration, and representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in disputes regarding trust and estate administration and settlement.  Mr. Shultz also represents conservators, proposed conservatees and interested family members in guardianship and conservatorship procedings.    

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Wasserman, Comden and Casselman, Mr. Shultz maintained his own office for several years.  Prior to running his own law practice, Mr. Shultz worked for two prestigious Los Angeles law firms, Reish Luftman Reicher & Cohen and McKenna & Cuneo, L.L.P.  Mr. Shultz also worked in the family wealth planning group at Arthur Andersen, L.L.P. for one year.  During his employment with Arthur Andersen, Mr. Shultz was principally involved in estate tax analysis and planning for high net worth clients.

Mr. Shultz serves as a volunteer Mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court, Probate Department in Van Nuys and is on the Probate Volunteer Panel for the Los Angeles Superior Court.  He is a member of the bar in the State of California and the State of New York and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Shultz currently serves as the co-Chair of the San Fernando Valley Bar Trusts and Estate Section and previously served on the Executive Committee for the Los Angeles County Bar Trusts and Estates section.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors for The Friends of Sheba Medical Center.

Mr. Shultz is co-author of Estate Planning After Dad Dies: Should Mom Gift or Disclaim? in California Trusts and Estates Quarterly (Summer 1996).

Education

Mr. Shultz received a B.A. from the University of California , Los Angeles in 1990.  He earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1993, where he was a member of the student government and also served as a teaching assistant for Real Property.  Mr. Shultz received a Masters of Law in Taxation from the New York University Law School in 1994.
