Lawyer Overview
Brett Lovejoy counsels clients in connection with intellectual property portfolio development and enforcement. He has written and prosecuted hundreds of patents involving a wide range of practical applications such as computer-implemented technology, renewable energy, diagnostics, medical devices, chemistry, and novelty products. Brett's practice includes prelitigation work, such as infringement, noninfringement and invalidity analyses, as well as litigation of patents, trademarks, and contracts.
Brett currently represents Alexx, Inc. in a spectrum of disputes involving patent, trademark, and copyright infringement relating to the sale of unauthorized goods. Some of these disputes have been litigated favorably in federal court while others are presently being litigated or have been settled favorably out of court. Brett is currently on the trial team defending Edison Mission Energy in a patent lawsuit brought by Exergetic Systems.
Brett also has served Becton Dickenson, Celgene, DNA2.0, FlashFoto, Hands on Mobile, Pabst, Pathwork Informatics, Roche, Rosetta Inpharmatics, Searchme, Solyndra, Spectral Image, and StrongMail on substantial legal matters.
Brett has published more than a dozen articles in scientific journals, including one describing doctoral work he did with others while in the laboratory of David Eisenberg at UCLA ("Crystal Structure of a Synthetic Triple-Stranded a-Helical Bundle," Science 259, 1288-1293 (1993)) and another describing work he did with others while employed as a research scientist at Glaxo (now GlaxoSmithKline) ("Structure of the Catalytic Domain of Fibroblast Collagenase Complexed with an Inhibitor," Science 263, 375-377 (1994)).
