Paula Render is an antitrust litigator, defending clients against claims of price-fixing, market allocation, refusals to deal, price discrimination, tying, and other antitrust claims, and also litigates merger challenges brought by the enforcement agencies. Her clients are in industries as diverse as pharmaceutical benefit management, specialty chemicals, financial services, manufacturing technology, and consumer products. In addition, Paula counsels clients on compliance and other antitrust issues.
Paula recently argued in the Fifth Circuit on behalf of all defendants in the successful defense of an appeal of summary judgment, in a group boycott case in which she represented Caremark Rx. She obtained dismissal of a class action lawsuit brought on behalf of indirect purchasers against Arctic Glacier and is defending Arctic Glacier in multidistrict litigation. She obtained voluntary dismissal of predatory pricing claims in a federal antitrust conspiracy case in which she represented the Chicago Board of Trade. Paula has argued in the Third, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, and Tenth Circuits as well as numerous federal and state trials courts and has tried cases in federal courts and before arbitration panels.
Paula is a vice chair of the Corporate Counseling Committee of the ABA's Section of Antitrust Law and also serves on its Competitiveness Task Force. She is a cofounder of the Chicago Women Antitrust Attorneys Network and a past chair of The Chicago Bar Association's Antitrust Law Committee. Prior to her legal career, Paula worked in product management for AT&T in New Jersey and Milan, Italy. |
