Vance Barron Jr. Overview
Vance devotes most of his time to representing people who have been unjustly harmed. He handles complex tort cases involving major injuries from automobile and tractor-trailer collisions, bicycle accidents, construction accidents, and defective products and drugs. He also assists people who have been mistreated by insurance companies.
In recent cases, Vance has obtained significant settlements that established trust funds to provide lifetime care for children and adults with permanent brain injuries.
He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in North Carolina.
Vance was selected as a North Carolina Super Lawyer in 2010 by the publication Super Lawyers. He was also selected for membership in the American Association for Justice, which limits membership to one hundred lawyers in each state.
Vance earned his law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1973, where he was editor-in-chief of the North Carolina Law Review. He completed his undergraduate study at Chapel Hill as well, receiving a B.A. with honors in history in 1965.
He is very active in organizations dedicated to excellence in the legal profession. He is a member of the President’s Club of the North Carolina Association of Justice, and is a sustaining member of the Greensboro Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is on the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Bar Association, and is a Master and former President of the Guilford Inn of Court.
His commitment to service began early. After college graduation, he spent two years working in Africa with the Peace Corps in Tanzania from 1965 to 1967. He was on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970, which included service in Viet Nam as a Swift Boat commander in the MeKong Delta. The Navy awarded him the Bronze Star Medal for his Viet Nam service.
In the Greensboro community, Vance has been Scoutmaster of a local Boy Scout troop since 1996. He is an active member of First Presbyterian Church and the Greensboro Kiwanis Club.
When it comes to "leisure" activities, Vance’s pastimes are not very leisurely. They include trail biking, canoeing, swimming and wilderness backpacking. He has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Ranier, and takes annual backpacking trips to places like Alaska, Arizona, Montana and Wyoming.
Vance and June, his wife of 40 years, have two daughters and three grandsons.
