Robert Scott Cox Overview

Robert Scott Cox is a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer with more than 30 years jury trial experience in State and Federal Courts. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is recognized by the Florida Bar as a specialist in civil trial law. He received an “AV” rating, from Martindale Hubbell, the highest ratings for both professional competence and ethics. He has appeared at all levels of State Court including the Florida Supreme Court.

Mr. Cox graduated with honors from the Florida State University College of Law in 1979. In law school he co-authored an article on Federal banking crimes and published in the Banking Law Journal. After completing law school, he practiced in Panama City, Florida before returning to Tallahassee.

Mr. Cox has taught extensively. In 1984, the Florida State Law School asked him to design and teach semester long seminars in personal injury law. He has authored articles on trial practice and taught continuing legal education seminars for the Florida Bar and other groups.

Mr. Cox was general counsel to the Florida High Speed Magnetic Levitation Demonstration Project including the Japanese National Railways, Mitsui Trading and the German Maglev Consortium - Transrapid, including Thyssen, and MBB. He was lead counsel in all administrative and technical proceedings concerning the project.  In 1990 he was appointed to the National Academy of Science, Transportation Research Board, and served on committees and as a consultant to Congress and the Volpe National Transportation Research Center. He has written extensively in this field and been published in scholarly and popular journals.

Mr. Cox serves as outside general counsel to Auto Data Direct, a leader in real time vehicle information from the State of Florida and the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System.

Mr. Cox’s outside interests include the Outward Bound School, where he serves on the National Board. The mission of the Outward Bound School is to impel students to value forming experiences through challenges, usually in wilderness environments. He is Chairman at risk youth Committee of the National Board and participated in expeditions in Africa, Patagonia, the Himalayas and the United States.

Mr. Cox was Born in Fort Myers Florida in 1952 and is a sixth generation Floridian. He has three children and two grandchildren. He lives in Tallahassee, Florida.
