Robert S. Morris Overview
Robert Morris practices in the areas of Elder Law, Guardianships, Probate, Litigation and Appellate law. Entering his fourth decade of law practice, Rob has tried more than 100 contested cases in state and federal courts. He is certified as a mediator and an ad litem.
A member of NAELA, Rob concentrates his probate and guardianship practice in Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties, but consults on cases and handles contested litigation matters throughout the state of Texas. He often serves as local counsel in hotly contested cases, such as representing a religious charitable foundation in complex litigation that concerned charitable trusts.
Rob has represented business and government in both state and federal court and is regularly involved in business and real estate litigation. Rob has represented his clients in appeals and mandamus actions in the Texas Courts of Appeals at Dallas, Ft. Worth, Tyler, Waco and Eastland, in the Texas Supreme Court, the U. S. Court of Appeals for Federal Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit at New Orleans.
Rob began his practice in Austin, where he was in private practice for 4 years before being appointed County Attorney for Martin County, Texas. While in Martin County, Rob combined his duties as County Attorney with a private practice. In 1983, Rob was elected by his fellow prosecutors as a member of the board of directors of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, a position he held from 1984-1986.
In 1985, Rob accepted an appointment as First Assistant District Attorney for the 118th Judicial District. As First Assistant DA, Rob prosecuted governmental corruption, obtaining a conviction against a county employee on over 20 counts of misapplication of fiduciary property. Rob also handled appeals for the DA's office, with no conviction ever being reversed.
In 1987, Rob joined the Criminal District Attorney's Office in Denton, where his job was to represent Denton County in civil matters. Rob represented the County in employment and contract matters, and defended the County from prisoner law suits in both state and federal court.
In 1992, Rob left the DA's office and entered private practice where he has been active in civil litigation in both state and federal court.
