Jeff Lerner Overview
Jeff Lerner has over thirty years of experience dealing with tax controversies at the federal and state levels. He knows the system from the inside out, having started his career as a law clerk with the U.S. Department of Justice Tax Division and subsequently serving as a Senior Trial Attorney with the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Chief Counsel, IRS. For the past twenty-five years Mr. Lerner has been in the private sector. His diverse list of clients has included railroads, energy companies, and Indian tribes, corporations, partnerships and individuals. As vice president-taxes and tax counsel for Fortune 500 companies, he has been involved in complex, high-dollar tax disputes, not only at the federal level, but with state and local taxing jurisdictions throughout the U.S.
An educator as well as a practitioner, Mr. Lerner has taught Federal Tax Procedure at the University of Minnesota Law School, Taxation of Business Entities at the University of Texas-Arlington, and lectured on dispute resolution at the Texas Wesleyan University Law School and the University of North Texas.
In addition to his years of experience in the tax area, Jeff Lerner is an experienced mediator and a student of dispute resolution. He knows the tax laws, but equally important, he has the experienced advocate's ability to develop and present the most persuasive arguments on behalf of his clients, striving to achieve the best result at the earliest possible opportunity.
