Hailey Powers Turnblad Overview
Hailey Powers Turnblad is a Dean's List graduate of the inaugural class of the Charleston School of Law, earning her Juris Doctorate in the spring of 2007. She is a member of The South Carolina Bar Association, has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court for te District of South Carolina, and is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice (formerly The Trial Lawyers Association).
In October of 2008, Hailey returned to Marlboro County from Columbia where she was with the law offices of Desa Ballard. Prior to her work with Desa Ballard, Hailey was Law Clerk to the Honorable L. Casey Manning, also in Columbia.
Hailey grew up in Marlboro County and graduated from Marlboro Academy in 2000. She earned her B.A. degree in Sociology with an emphasis in criminal behavior and a minor in legal studies from Clemson University in 2004. While at Clemson, Hailey interned with the Oconee County Solicitor's Office, and worked with attorneys John Delgado and Bill Nettles on Death Penalty and civil cases.
During law school, Hailey was chosen to clerk for Federal Magistrate Judge Robert S. Carr, and also worked for Mount Pleasant real estate attorney Lynn McCants and at The Joye Law Firm in Charleston. In the summer of 2006, Hailey studied Spanish law and sports law at the Universidad de Cantabria in Spain.
In the future, Hailey hopes to use her background in Spanish studies to develop proficiency in the language in order to better serve a large segment of the population that is often under-served.
