Colin H. Newberry Overview

"As a family law attorney, you are the protector of your client against an opposition that can be difficult and doesn't always play fair."

Through the experiences in his life and legal career, Colin Newberry understands the importance of helping clients faced with the difficulties of child custody and property issues in a family law situation.

Mr. Newberry first began helping people through the family law legal process in 2008, as a volunteer intern in the Dallas Public Defender's Office Family Law division. It was in this position where he learned the importance of the counselor side to being a family lawyer.

The knowledge gleaned from seeing firsthand the frustration and uncertainty of people battling in a family law case later led his law school classmates to select him as a Kennedy Memorial Scholar, an award given annually to two graduating students who demonstrate "service in student organizations, pro bono service, faculty interaction and dedicated efforts to the betterment of the school and community."

Mr. Newberry understands the reality, however, that a family law case demands that an attorney not only counsel his client, but also protect that client's interests against opposing parties who are often times irrational, spiteful, or vindictive.

This cum laude graduate of SMU's Dedman School of Law, and University of Georgia undergraduate alumnus, has the knowledge, experience, and assets to present any family law case thoroughly and effectively.

He was recognized as one of only 10 outstanding oral advocates by his selection into the National Order of Barristers. He also was selected as Outstanding Oral Advocate by a panel led by a Texas Supreme Court Justice. Furthermore, Mr. Newberry's experiences interning for the Presiding Dallas County Family Court has given him the experience "behind the judge's bench" to know what is most important in presenting any case to a judge.

"Every good law firm has an open door policy to gain knowledge from other attorneys' experiences, but KoonsFuller has a body of knowledge, advice, and experience that cannot be found at any other law office," says Newberry. "Being at KoonsFuller allows me to take full advantage of the resources available to best advocate for my clients and their interests."
