Alicia Garcia Overview

Alicia Garcia grew up in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from California State University Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. In 1990, she graduated from Stanford Law School in Stanford, California.

Alicia then went to work with CBS Television in Los Angeles. She loved her work there, but after seeing life at a major TV network, and living in Southern California most of her life, she decided that she wanted to make a life and raise a family somewhere besides urban L.A. She spent several months living in London, and upon her return to the United States, then spent three months on a coast to coast road trip, driving from state to state, in search of the ideal place to live. She found the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. In the spring of 1994, Alicia packed up and moved. That summer she passed the South Dakota Bar examination, and in 1995 began her work with Mike Abourezk and the Abourezk Law Firm.

At the same time, Alicia also became involved with the local television news team, and now anchors the KOTA Territory Television News at 10 p.m. and produces KOTA's Consumer Reports, which airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:30. She loves being able to discover, uncover and deliver the news to western South Dakota, as well as KOTA Territory in North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska. Her legal experience helps her report on issues that are especially useful to consumers.

In addition to bringing the news to the public, Alicia's own story of success as both a trial lawyer and a television anchor woman has been the subject of a feature article in Lawyer's Weekly, USA.

In 2009, the South Dakota Trial Lawyer's Association presented Alicia Garcia and Mike Abourezk with the Toast of the Trial Lawyer's Award, for their work without pay to secure insurance payments for high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant treatments previously denied.

In her law practice, Alicia represents consumers in cases of insurance bad faith and corporate fraud. She also helps victims of negligence in cases of personal injury and medical malpractice. She and Mike Abourezk have hosted a number of legal seminars on insurance bad faith for attorneys, with participants from all around the nation.

Alicia loves to travel, particularly to her family's origin in Costa Rica. She also enjoys taking part in local stage productions. Alicia is the proud mother of two sons and two daughters.
