Mr. Morgan is a former assistant public defender and former assistant district attorney. He was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 1981 after finishing law school at Wake Forest University School of Law, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before opening his own law firm in 1989, he worked for a medium-sized, multi-state general law practice, where he was named partner and managed all of the firm's criminal cases.
