The Law Office of Joshua W. Martin provides top-quality legal representation to clients throughout San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County. Whether resolving an uncontested divorce, settling a child custody dispute or litigating a personal injury claim, my mission remains the same: providing high-quality legal service at a competitive rate. Through skilled negotiation and strategic litigation, I diligently advocate my clients' rights and best interests.
I am a member of the State Bar of California and Utah State Bar, and spent the first decade of my career working with top lawyers. I gained valuable courtroom experience defending criminal cases, and then moved onto civil litigation. With extensive trial experience and a thorough knowledge of civil procedures, I offer a unique skill set and understanding of the law not common among many family law attorneys. My experience, coupled with a passion for defending the rights and needs of individuals and families, makes me an invaluable advocate for those facing legal hardships.
As an Arroyo Grande family law attorney, I am committed to helping people throughout the community and surrounding California cities. Family disputes are sensitive and challenging. I strive toward a balance of compassionate legal counsel and aggressive advocacy to obtain optimal results in each case. With a client-centered approach, I help families face difficulties and guide them through the necessary steps to achieve their future goals.
I have the skills, knowledge and unwavering drive to negotiate favorable settlements and successfully litigate family law and personal injury cases. Named a Top 20 Under 40 Award winner in 2011, I was honored as one of San Luis Obispo County's leading young business and community members. I was also named to the Pacific Coast Business Times' 40 Under 40. For quality legal representation both in and outside the courtroom, contact The Law Offices of Joshua W. Martin.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
