Jerome A. Scharoff opened his own firm in 2004 after working under some of the top matrimonial attorneys in the state. Prior to focusing on matrimonial and family law Mr. Scharoff was the acting head of the Nassau County District Court law department where he was in charge of a staff that researched and wrote decisions for 26 different Nassau County District Court Judges.

Since Mr. Scharoff opened his own firm he has emerged as one of Long Island's leading independent matrimonial lawyers. Mr. Scharoff is well liked and respected by Judges and Lawyers alike. Proof of Mr. Scharoff's standing in the legal community was his recent appointment to the Grievance Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association as well as the fact that many of his colleagues refer cases to him. Mr. Scharoff has handled complex cases in the areas of child custody, child support and maintenance/alimony. In addition, he routinely handles cases involving sophisticated equitable distribution issues such as business/license valuations and pension/retirement issues. Further, Mr. Scharoff regularly represents clients in post divorce litigation as well as drafting complex pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements.

"As a firm I routinely try to think outside the box to come up with the most constructive and cost effective approach to litigation. I never want a client to spend more in legal fees than the dollar amount they are fighting over. However there are some areas that you cannot put a price tag on such as child custody matters. My goal for all of our clients is to get them through one of the most difficult times in their life with strong, dedicated representation."

Mr. Scharoff is a member of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, the Family Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association. He was also named a "Top Ten Matrimonial Lawyer" under the age of 45 on Long Island. Further he was named a Super Lawyer Rising Star in the 2012 New York Metro edition of Super Lawyers Magazine. This award is bestowed upon no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state after a selection process involving in-depth research and peer nominations and reviews.

At present he also sits on the WE CARE Advisory Board, which is the charity arm of the Nassau County Bar Association and is a member of the Merrick Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Scharoff is married to his Wife Lindsey and they have two children, Spencer and Carly. He is a big sports and music fan who enjoys going to sporting events and concerts.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
