Quay Law Centre is an association of Family Lawyers and practice.

First Law Corporation is composed of seven lawyers with two articled students practicing in the Lower Mainland with an office in New Westminster and the Okanagan with an office in Kelowna.

Our practice is confined to Family Law, Litigation, Settlement, Mediation, Arbitration, and as well, representation before a professional governing body.

Our practice is devoted to lessoning the cost of Family Law representation and expediting conclusion to decrease stress.

For over 20 years, our internal system has been based on the Barrister and Solicitor system operable for centuries in England. The Solicitors prepare cases for presentations to courts, opposing counsel, mediators and arbitrators and the Barrister appears to give effect to the submissions prepared by the solicitor.

In this system we have experience levels ranging from recent law school graduates to 40 years of practice. Rates range from $175.00 to $400.00 per hour. Please note, we offer the first hour of the initial consultation at 50% off our lawyers` regular rate.

Barristers are experienced and talented in court and have strategic overview of the file.

Court is not the only option. We offer lawyers with various levels of experience and expertise and provide a range of services including: Court Proceedings, Negotiations and Settlement Meetings, Family Law Mediation, and Collaborative Family Law.

Our areas of practice include:
• Cohabitation, Separation, and Marriage Agreements;
• Divorce;
• Custody;
• Guardianship;
• Parenting time;
• Child Support;
• Spousal Support;
• Asset Division for both married and unmarried couples;
• Ministry Apprehension of Children; and
• Corporate Assets and Evaluation.

Our years of experience in practicing in this area have allowed us to develop connections with experts such as corporate evaluators, preparers of custody reports, accountants, pension actuaries, real estate appraisers and psychologists.

We have staff who speak Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Japanese, Polish and Ukrainian.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
