The law firm of Rucker & Rucker, P.C. traces its beginning to William S. McLemore, great-great-grandfather of John R. Rucker, Jr. Judge McLemore began his law practice in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee in 1860 and moved to Murfreesboro in the early 1890s to join his son-in-law, John E. Richardson, who had commenced his practice in 1878. The firm of McLemore & Richardson continued until the death of Judge McLemore. After practicing law for several years, John E. Richardson was elected Circuit Judge in Rutherford County and served from 1904 to 1934. Judge Richardson associated his grandson, John R. Rucker, Sr., in the firm of Richardson & Rucker in September, 1934. Except for five years during World War II, the firm has continuously provided legal services in Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee for more than 130 years.

John R. Rucker, Sr. was joined in the practice of law by his two sons, Richard W. Rucker (1970) and John R. Rucker, Jr. (1978). Richard W. Rucker now serves as Risk Management Attorney for the City of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. John R. Rucker, Jr. was joined in the practice of law by his son, John R. Rucker III, in 2007. J. Stephen Aymett, Jr. joined the firm as an associate attorney in 2016. John R. Rucker, Sr. served as General Sessions Court Judge in Rutherford County, Tennessee from 1948 to 1962 and as Tennessee State Senator from 1977 to 1988. Richard W. Rucker served as Judge of the Tennessee Claims Commission from 1985 to 1991.

Rucker & Rucker, P.C. presently consists of three attorneys, John R. Rucker, Jr., John R. Rucker III, and J. Stephen Aymett, Jr. The firm is engaged in a general personal injury litigation practice throughout Middle Tennessee. The firm's primary practice focuses on general insurance litigation, including automobile accident litigation, workers' compensation, medical malpractice, insurance contract and coverage litigation, general personal injury litigation, and general insurance defense litigation.
