Jon Popowski has served the Columbia community for more than 20 years and served as Chairman of the Governor's Committee on the Improvement of Workers' Compensation Laws. The partners, Nicholas G. Callas and J. Scott Shirley, have extensive backgrounds in workers' compensation, personal injury, wrongful death litigation and Social Security disability cases.

Our firm is at the forefront of workers' compensation law. We have an in-depth knowledge of regulations and applicable law that permits us to easily handle difficult and complex workers’ compensation issues. Our firm has been instrumental in getting South Carolina workers’ compensation laws changed to benefit the injured.

Popowski, Callas & Shirley, P.A. also concentrates on serious personal injury cases, including auto, trucking and railroad accidents, and slip-and-fall claims.

We are one of the few firms in the region to combine a workers’ compensation practice with expertise in Social Security disability. We have developed procedures to dovetail workers’ compensation settlements with potential Social Security recovery, and we handle Social Security disability claims to their completion. Our firm has earned an excellent reputation among justices serving on Social Security disability panels.

Clients appreciate our straightforward approach and the fact that we keep them fully informed throughout the litigation process. We provide an honest assessment of each case, determine our clients’ goals and devise a strategy to accomplish them. Often we can settle an injury claim for its full value without going to court. But when an insurer plays hardball, we are fully prepared to take cases to trial and win.
