We have been successfully defending clients faced with DUI charges for over 45 years. The courts are getting tougher on drunk drivers sending more people to jail and increasing the risk of deportation. Consequences of DUI not only include jail time but also losing your license and raising your insurance rates. Call the Cooper Law Firm for an immediate free consultation.

Mr. Cooper is a well-known trial lawyer who has appeared before judges and juries in Maryland and D.C. for more than 30 years. His clients have included seriously injured individuals and their families seeking careful and experienced legal representation. Mr. Cooper frequently co-counsels with other quality law firms on complex litigation matters.

Over the years, Mr. Cooper has handled many high profile cases. In a 1973 case, Mr. Cooper abolished DC Governmental Immunity in Tort Cases. In a 1977 case, Mr. Cooper obtained a $600,000.00 verdict against the District of Columbia for injuries to an inmate. This was the highest verdict ever as of that date against the DC Government. In a later trial, Mr. Cooper obtained a verdict in a similar case against the District of Columbia Government for 1.6 million dollars.

During the 1980's, Mr. Cooper obtained the largest verdict up to that time in a personal injury case in Prince George's County, Maryland. The verdict was 8.5 million dollars against Potomac Electric Power Company in connection with the electrocution of a young girl.

In the decade of the 90's there were other high profile cases. In 1992, Mr. Cooper represented a child mauled by dogs. The child nearly died. A structured settlement was worked out with anticipated payments of more that 2.6 million dollars. In 1994, Mr. Cooper collected $650,000.00 for a child who lost her thumb on playground equipment.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
