McCoyd, Parkas & Ronan LLP was formed in March 2000 to continue the practice of Edward A. McCoyd, P.C., which had been formed more than 17 years earlier and which was itself a successor to the trusts and estates practice of McCoyd & Keegan, which had been formed in 1972. The practice of McCoyd, Parkas & Ronan is devoted almost exclusively to work in the area of trusts and estates, in which it assists clients from the planning stage through the administration of their estates and, where necessary, litigation involving estates and trusts in which they have an interest. Although a much smaller percentage of the firm’s work involves guardianship, commercial and residential real estate transactions, and corporate, partnership or limited liability company matters, the firm does involve itself in those areas when it becomes necessary, in order to protect an individual in need of a guardian, to implement a client’s estate plan, administer a client’s estate, or simply service the client’s needs with respect to real estate or business transactions.

The firm, whose offices are located in Garden City near the Nassau County court complex, stresses quality in serving its clients and, given the specialized nature of its practice, requires its attorneys to develop and maintain a high level of competence in all of the aspects of the firm’s estates and trusts practice. This is fostered by access to online research tools, continually updated tax and accounting software, a dedicated and highly qualified support staff, and a collegial atmosphere that allows the younger attorneys to learn and benefit from the years of experience of the more senior members of the firm.

The firm’s philosophy of providing high quality services to clients, and of making the clients’ interests its first priority, has led to the firm enjoying an outstanding reputation in the courts and among its clients and other members of the profession, who regularly refer difficult matters, especially in litigated estates and trusts, to McCoyd, Parkas & Ronan.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
