The Law Office of George E. Foote, P.C. is located in Lexington, Massachusetts, and Mr. Foote has been providing legal services to clients in Lexington and surrounding communities since 1975. George E. Foote has been engaged in the practice of law of over 25 years. He started his career as an Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County and continued as an A.D.A. for Middlesex County, and still maintains a network in this area. He devoted himself to the full time private practice of law in 1980.

Mr. Foote holds a Masters Law degree (L.L.M.) In Taxation from Boston University Law School. The firm advises clients concerning the tax aspects of many of the varied law practice areas including Estates, Wills, Trusts, Probate Administration and Real Estate.

The firm focuses most of its efforts to representing clients in the following areas:

REAL ESTATE

Mr. Foote represents both Buyers and Sellers in real estate transactions. He also represents a number of area residential mortgage lenders in connection with his clients' home purchases. Mr. Foote is also often called upon to solve problems relating to tax free (IRC 1031) exchanges. Mr. Foote also represents clients who find themselves facing decisions in real estate litigation as well.

The Law Office of George E. Foote, P.C. lists the following Mortgage Lender clients:

  • Capstone Mortgage Company, Inc.
  • Medford Savings Bank
  • Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Inc.
  • Leader Mortgage Company, Inc.
  • Boston Federal Savings Bank
  • Cambridge Savings Bank
  • GMAC
  • Hunneman Mortgage Corp.

Most Internet Based Lenders
[primarily headquartered out-of state, Internet Lenders usually permit the borrower to select the attorney who will act as closing agent for the loan transaction. You should make this request either on the Web or to your loan representative when you make telephone contact with you loan]

PROBATE ADMINISTRATION & ESTATE PLANNING

A substantial portion of the firm's practice is devoted to the preparation of Wills and Trusts for clients' estate plans. Estate tax law is periodically changing. Permanent repeal of the Federal Estate Tax has been defeated, and is likely to remain in place in some form for the foreseeable future. States may impose their own estate tax, regardless of changes in the Federal Estate Tax. Estate taxes for most families can be avoided entirely with careful planning. The Law Office of George E. Foote has been assisting its clients in avoiding tax liability and provided for proper oversight of their estates for over twenty-five (25) years.

When a death does occur, surviving family members may find themselves overwhelmed by dealing with the details of estate administration, both with and apart from probate. Mr. Foote applies a kind and caring approach coupled with the expertise demanded in order to complete the process within a reasonable time, and at the lowest possible cost to the family.

CIVIL & CRIMINAL LITIGATION

Litigation can be a costly and stressful experience for clients. Mr. Foote utilizes his many years of experience working within the Court system to find ways to avoid costly legal battles whenever possible. When actual litigation cannot be avoided, clients are well served by the firm in cases ranging from personal injury matters to landlord/tenant and other real estate cases, probate equity client disputes, and business litigation. Because Mr. Foote worked for years as an Assistant District Attorney (A.D.A.), he is often sought out as an effective advocate for clients charged with criminal matters as an attorney who "knows the system", and is able to bring these cases to a desirable result for the client.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:
Comfort Level - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
Credentials - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
Cost - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
City - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?
