Law Firm Overview

In 1982, after nine years of service to state government, Howard W. Feldman entered the private practice of law. In 1987, Stanley N. Wasser left state government after twelve years and the firm of Feldman & Wasser was founded. Later that year, the firm expanded rapidly. Carl R. Draper, former Counsel to Governor James R. Thompson, and Fredric Benson, former Corporation Counsel for the City of Springfield joined the firm. In 1996, the firm adopted the name, Feldman, Wasser, Draper & Benson. In 1999, J. Randall Cox also became a partner with the firm after being with the firm since 1991 as an associate.  In January 2008, with Fredric Benson's retirement, the firm modified its name to what it is currently - Feldman, Wasser, Draper & Cox.

We are a general practice firm providing a wide range of legal services to businesses, individuals, and not-for-profit organizations throughout Illinois in the following areas, with an emphasis on litigation and trial work: corporation and partnership formation and maintenance; contracts and documents for the sale and financing of all kinds of goods and services, buildings and businesses; engineering and construction matters, including lien, bond, delay, and warranty claims; divorce, adoption, child support, and custody; wills, powers of attorney, probate, estate administration, and guardianship; traffic, DUI, and drivers licenses; criminal misdemeanors and felonies, both state and federal; government regulations, including licenses, permits, investigations, and penalty proceedings; employment and discrimination.

At our firm, we believe that our clients are best served by the prevention of legal problems through careful and thorough advice given before they enter into a transaction or business arrangement or take any other action. When a legal problem does arise, however, we will assist them in finding the most practical and cost-effective solution to the problem, which may or may not include litigation.

All of our work is done as quickly and skillfully as possible. If we are not skilled in a particular specialized area, we will either refer our clients to a lawyer whom we believe has the necessary expertise, or associate ourselves with such counsel. If necessary, we will also associate and/or work hand-in-hand with other professionals such as Certified Public Accountants or engineers. Our mission is simple: to see that our clients receive the highest-quality legal services at competitive rates.

As a small, experienced firm, we are able to offer each client personal and individualized attention in addressing and resolving their legal matters. We listen to our clients to identify their goals and to fully understand and identify the important legal issues involved with their case. Our clients appreciate that our attorneys work directly with them on their case. We believe that maintaining a direct attorney-client relationship with each client is essential to developing and executing effective legal strategies. It is also key to developing long-standing relationships with our clients.

We start out each case by providing our clients information about our firm so they know who we are, and what to expect in terms of fees, costs and billing, the attorney-client relationship, and communication with us. Throughout the progress of their case, our clients are kept informed at all times. We send them copies of correspondence, documents, and pleadings that we produce, send, or receive on their behalf.

Our attorneys and staff make use of current technology to provide efficient and effective services to our clients. We also do our best to make it more convenient for our clients to do business with us, so we are always accessible to our clients by e-mail. We return calls promptly and are always available to answer any questions they may have.
